大学受験(worked out a way of giving them cameras of their own )

という文章で最後のhaveの後ろに省略されているものを補え、という問題だったのですが、答えはhaveは現在完了でworked out a way of giving them cameras of their own です。
ここで解答にhaveを他動詞と考えてa way of giving them cameras of their ownとした者もいるかもしれないが、haveを他動詞として使うなら、And we have one. のように目的語を必要とするため不適切、と書いてあったのですが意味がわかりません。a way of からの分は目的語にならないんですか？
