sat と was sitting の違いはなんですか？ 違うサイト等でいろいろ調べてみたのですが、極端に違う解答がでてきて、困っています。 例文は、 The dog sat there with his tongue hanging out. です。 お願いします。

ちらっと見たときに、犬が座っていたという場合は、The dog was sitting…. それ以外は sat です。同様に、was standing/stood や was sleeping/slept も。
